"LIFE begins at 40" - Denise

I'm running this Campaign to celebrate the lives and beauty of women over the age of 40, they have so much wisdom to share and Denise was no exception!

Denise is a woman with the sweetest personality and a heart of gold. She believes that there is no problem too big to solve - and that things will always get better.
During our time together we talked, we laughed and we celebrated the good things in life, which are scarce during these challenging times, for many. 

Denise have dealt with a lot of adversity and loss in her life - beginning with the suicide of her dearly loved sister. Denise was only 22 and this was the beginning of a difficult journey through grief. She have experienced many other losses through the years. These experiences have led her to to focus on the good in her life, appreciating each day, and bringing positive energy, humour, support and kindness in all aspects of her life and interactions with others.

I asked Denise to answer some questions and I love what she had to say...

What would you advise your 20-year-old self?

• to have have confidence in yourself
• to listen to your gut
• follow your heart
• ignore negative influences or opinions of others

What is your favourite beauty secret?

• I'm not sure I have one!! I think being well groomed is important - tidy eyebrows, clean nails, kinda basic!
• a smile is always beautiful!

What do you love about being your age?

• it's definitely a freeing time for me - my kids are raised and I am no longer caring for elderly parents - my decisions and plans are much more straightforward
• I rarely think about other's opinions of me​

What do you consider your biggest accomplishment?

• on a personal level, delivering two healthy babies and raising them as best as I could. They are adults now who are wonderful, independent, kind, funny and loving individuals who I am very proud of (no bias there!)
• on a career level, I have navigated a career as an occupational therapist while raising my kids and caring for aging parents - I have been able to find interesting work that has evolved into a management role where I support and mentor clinicians - I feel I have supported clients and families over the years in ways that have made significant positive impacts in their lives

Why did you decide to have this experience?

• I think it will be very validating and fun - getting older has both benefits and challenges - the last couple years have been challenging in many ways - this will be a positive in my life - moving forward from some hard days
